The introduction of the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) has been widely reported in the trade press. Based on the American ESTA, this electronic entry authorisation will apply to visitors who do not require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. To date, Gulf Cooperation Council visitors already need an ETA to travel to the UK. ETA is now also to be gradually introduced for other countries in 2025. This means that ETA will be required for EU citizens in the coming season.
According to official sources, the EU will also introduce its European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) in mid-2025, but no final date has yet been published. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of ETA (in the UK) and ETIAS (in the EU) will be coordinated. We will of course report on further developments as they occur.
